Title
A leg from a copper alloy vessel probably a skillet, cauldron or ewer of medieval date (1300 - 1500).
Description
English: A cast copper alloy leg from a copper alloy vessel probably a skillet, cauldron or ewer of medieval date (1300 - 1500).

The leg is sub-rectangular in plan and sub-triangular (triangular with rounded corners) in cross section. The reverse of the leg is a flat surface, whereas the outer face of the leg is the apex of the triangular cross-section. The leg tapers from the top at a large jagged terminal, where it would have been soldered to the body, to a point just above the foot (the ankle). Here the leg flares into a sub-rectangular angled foot. The angle of the leg, when the foot is placed on a horizontal surface, is approximately 70°. The angle of the wide top terminal, when the foot is placed on a horizontal surface, is approximately 45°. The leg measures 72mm in length, has a maximum width of 30.4mm and a minimum width of 12.2mm. It also has a maximum thickness of 26.3mm and minimum thickness of 14.7mm. The leg weighs 109.46 grams.

The leg is plainly decorated with a series of shallow horizontal lines which cover all three surfaces. This decoration is formed from a combination of incised shallow lines and polishing. The leg is a mid-dark green colour with an even and highly polished patina. This patina has been abraded in several places, probably through movement in the plough soil. This movement has also damaged the edges of the leg producing an asymmetrical shape.
