Title |
A lead spindle whorl, dating to the 15th/ 16th century AD. |
||
Description |
English: A cast lead decorated spindle whorl (diameter: 26.9mm; thickness: 11.1mm; weight: 34.83g). This conical-shaped spindle whorl has different decoration on each side. On one side, there are seventeen roughly circular protruding dots/ knobs, with an average diameter of 3.5mm. These features are unevenly spread across the artefact's surface. On the opposite side, the decoration is worn but faint 'zig zag' lines can still be seen in places, with a probable rib running around the hole in the centre. The cylindrical but straight-sided hole in the centre has an identation halfway down. The spindle whorl is worn but in a fair condition. These highly decorated spindle whorls date to the 15th/ 16th century AD. |
