A lead Bulla papal, of Pope John XXI
Description
English: A cast lead Papal bulla, dating from the Medieval c.1276 -1277 AD.

The obverse depicts the busts of St. Paul and St. Peter, each of the busts are surrounded by a circle of pellets. The edge of the Bulla has a further border of pellets. The legend above the busts reads SPASPE.

The reverse depicts the name of the Pope. The legend reads IO // h'INNES // PP: XXI written on three lines, as indicated by //. This is therefore a bulla of Pope John XXI. The bulla has one pierced ribbon hole at around the 5 o’clock position.
