Title
A late Medieval or early Post Medieval candlestick socket.
Description
English: The object is a late Medieval or early Post Medieval candle. Margeson illustrates a similar example, No. 538. It is cast from copper alloy.

The socket is cylindrical with an inverted conical shaped base. The apex of the base on the exterior surface is broken, but it does not appear to be a recent break. The exterior surface of the base is decorated with moulded linear grooves. There is a protruding rim on the exterior surface before the sides of the socket become straight. The straight sides are also decorated with fine parallel pairs of grooves.

The interior of the socket is clean, there are no indications of any wax or the wick.

The surface of the socket has a matt dark green patina. It weighs 17.84g. Measures 30.4mm tall, and 19.9mm diameter.
