Of equal rank with the empires of Media and Lydia, whose his-tory we have been sketching, was the later empire of Babylon, ruledby an essentially Semitic people. Here Nabopolassar was succeededby his son Nebuchadnezzar (Nabu-kudiuTi-usur), one of the great-est monarchs of antiquity.
