ease with which he made friendsand retained them throughout life was duelargely to an unswerving loyalty, a code ofbusiness ethics based upon the highest prin-ciples of honor and an upright method inevery transaction. Throughout the WyomingValley of Pennsylvania he was esteemed forthese qualities and left a name that will bepermanently engraved upon the records of itshistory. He was born in Mifflinville, ColumbiaCounty, Pennsylvania, August 13, 1866, uponthe family farm, a son of Aaron and Eliza-beth (Wolfe) Andreas. The family name isan old one in Luzerne County, John Andreas,father of Aaron, having been a large landowner near the present city of Hazleton. Hisson, Aaron, grew to manhood in this county,where he was born, attained an education inthe public schools and at the outbreak of theCivil War enlisted in Company E of the 16thPennsylvania Cavalry. He attained the rankof lieutenant in that organization and wasengaged with it in many of the major con-fiicts through which it passed.

S67 His son, Russell Emerson Andreas, attendedthe public schools of the district in whichhe was born and later learned telegraphy,this taking him Into the employ of the Penn-sylvania Railroad Company as an operator, anoccupation which he followed for a number ofyears. He then changed to clerical work withthe Lehigh and Wilkes-Barre Coal Companyin Wilkes-Barre and after acquiring consid-erable experience in office work accepted aposition as head bookkeeper for the Steg-maier Brewing- Company. Changing again,he became affiliated with the First NationalBank of Wilkes-Barre as note teller, a posi-tion he held until he resigned to accept ap-pointment as district manager of the NewEngland Life Insurance Company, of Boston,Massachusetts, a post he held for the lial-ance of his life. He was a valiant supporterof the principles of the Republican party, butnever sought public office, and his religiousaffiliation was with the St. Stephens Protes-tant Episcopal Church of Wilkes-Barre.
