the eastern bays, is continued inthe third and fourth bays, and in a modified formin the later work. There are many traces of damageby fire in the eastern bays of the nave, the mainarches of the two east bays on the north being nowfaced with cement, and the second and third on thesouth have been similarly treated. The sub-archesand central pillars of the triforium are entirelymodern on both sides for four bays, but the clearstoryhas escaped damage, as far as can be seen. The eastbays on each side are markedly narrower than therest, and the eastern arch of the south main arcade ismore elaborate, having an outer order of zigzag anda richly worked label, belonging rather to the workof the south transept than to that of the nave ; it fitsvery awkwardly to the circular pier on the west. The two eastern bays of the triforium correspondon both sides of the nave, having semicircular mainarches with a heavy roll between two square orders ;on the south this arch is cement faced in the east bay,
