s taken near Oxford. One was shot nearHowdck, in Northumberland, on the 13th. of February, 1832,by Mr. W. Proctor, Curator of the Museum of the Universityof Durham. Another, as recorded by William Richard Fisher,Esq., of Yarmouth, was killed near there on the 22nd. ofNovember, 1811; another in the following April, and anotheron the Denes, between that town and Caistor, by the sameperson who had previously killed one, and who remarked itspeculiar appearance. Two were shot near Penzance, in Corn-wall, and two near Marazion, in that county, and one nearNewcastle, in Northumberland. In addition to these, John Gatcombe, Esq., of WyndhamPlace, Plymouth, who has most obligingly furnished me witha highly-finished coloured dramng of the bird, from whichthe plate is taken, has wTitten me word that, in the neigh-bourhood of that town, one was shot by himself in the monthof November, 1812. He has also informed me that threeothers were procured at the same time, and two more a fewvears afterwards.

eichaeds pipit. ISl In Ireland and Scotland it has not occurred up to thepresent time. Richards Pipit appears to be partial to dry rocky situations. It seldom alights in trees, being addicted to the ground, where it finds its sustenance. Its food consists of insects of various kinds. The note is said to be very loud, and to be uttered fre-quently by the bird Avhen on the wing. The eggs are described as being of a reddish white groundcolour, speckled with darker red and light brown. This bird seems to vary much in size, different individualsmeasuring respectively, six inches and three quarters, seveninches and a quarter, seven and more than a half, and eightinches in length. The upper bill is dark brown, the lowerone paler in colour, with a tinge of purple: two dark linesproceed from its base; one of them, which is made up ofsmall spots, losing itself in the spots of the breast; the otherends near the ear coverts. Iris, very dark browii, nearlyblack—a light streak passes over it; head
