The breeding haunts of the Black-headed Gullin England are almost too numerous to mention.I have visited colonies in Essex, Kent, Sussex,Hants, Dorset, Norfolk, Lancashire, and Northumber-land, and have heard of several in other counties.See my article on Gulleries, Field, Feb. 2 and 16,1884, In winter these birds are quite commonon the Thames, and fearlessly visit the ornamentalwaters in the London parks, sojourning there oftenfor many weeks, being well fed by visitors. One with theblack head fully developed was shot on the sandsat Fraserburgh, Aberdeenshire, June 28, 1854 (T.Edward, Nat., 1854, p. 226); a second, seen incompany with it, escaped. Another specimen wasobtained at Churt, near Frensham, in February 1875(Zool, 1875, p. 4459). In Oct. 1889 a white varietywas obtained off Flamborough Head (Zool., 1890,p. 19).
