et pale brown; soles ofhind feet naked, with seven pads; tail of moderate length,short-haired. Pouch fairly well developed; eight teats. Lengthof head and body about three inches ; of tail 2^ inches. Distribution.—Central and Southern Queensland. This pretty little animal is the smallest representative of thegenus, and, both in form and coloration, simulates the commonHouse-Mouse to a remarkable degree. XI. LONG-TAILED POUCHED MOUSE. Characters.—May be distinguished from the last by beingnearly double the size, and by the length of the tail exceedingthat of the head and body; the latter feature distinguishing itfrom all the other species with the exception of P. calura.The nearest approach to this condition is made by P. wallacii,in which the length of the tail is equal to that of the head andbody.
