Fig. 14.5. — C4old bracelet witli ring-money, Ely, Climbs. a style resembling that seen on the bucklers from Wales andelsewhere (Cases 3, 4, ti, 7) ; but a richer variety of patterns ishere employed, consisting of circular bosses of two sizes, pyra-midal rivet-heads, pointed ovals, and other bosses of quadrangularshape, separated by simple raised lines. It was probably notearlier than the shields, and the presence of iron may indicateeven a later date. A discovery of this kind demonstrates in astriking manner the abundance of gold at the end of our Bronzeperiod. It is obvious that before a warrior would decorate hishorse Mith the precious metal, he had doubtless satisfied his ownpersonal needs in tliis direction. The crescent necklets in this Case have been already referred to(p. 14.5).
