nd his sisters to visit them here brought mehome with one of our missionaries who has the chargeof a mission boarding-school for girls. The young Rajah called on me on Thursday. Heis a fine lad of fourteen, tall and manly. He worean English riding suit and a handsome turban. Hegreeted me very cordially, and said he did not remem-ber me but he had my photograph with a baby in myarms which he had been told was himself. We satdown together on the sofa and I asked him if I mightdrop his title and call him by his name, Jai Singh, asit made my boy seem so far away to address him asRajah Sahib. He seemed quite pleased at this re-quest. I talked to him of his childhood and told him somesweet little things about himself and some stories ofinterest about his mother. He read a page of Englishfor me and I find that he speaks English very well.He will graduate from the high school in two yearsmore. His guardian, who was with him, is a B. The Young Rajah of Khetvl, Fifteen Years Old. Return to India they hoped to keep him so, for in four years he willtake his fathers place. The prince is under very strict orders ; he is notallowed to go outside the college grounds without per-mission, and then his guardian and an escort accom-pany him. His guardian seems a good man; he is aBrahman of the purest type. He called yesterday tosay that the prince was unable to pay his respects tome before going to Khetri where the ceremony ofputting on the sacred thread will take place. The two princesses came on Saturday and spent theday with me before going to Khetri. They urged meto go with them but I declined as I knew how tire-some the journey would be for me and as the Rajahand Rani had both passed away I had no desire to go.They will return in ten days and expect to spendsome time in Ajmere.
