fthe church as the Mountain Miller,was a native of Bridgewater, in thisstate, and removed with his family tothis place in 1779. Here, in 1789, ayear of great scarcity, he met with asevere affliction, the loss of his houseand nearly all his provisions by a fire.Previous to this, he had been de-pending on his external morality forsalvation, considering a change asunnecessary. He now found that hecould not truly submit to the will ofGod, and betook himself to the seek-ing of his salvation in earnest. Aftera season of distressing anxiety, theSaviour was pleased to reveal him-self to his sou! as the chief amongten thousand and altogether love-ly, and he suddenly broke forth innew strains of devotion, penitence,and (-raise, for redeeming love.
