Summary
[edit]DescriptionA fungus - Leotia lubrica - geograph.org.uk - 920234.jpg |
English: A fungus - Leotia lubrica This is part of a larger group of these fungi that were growing among trees, just a little north of the start of the footpath up to Whinny Hill Woodland.
They were photographed here with the low winter sun behind them in order to highlight that they are translucent. Their flesh is also rubbery and gelatinous, and it is therefore quite appropriate that the common name for this fungus is "Jellybaby". These typically appear in late summer to autumn, growing on soil in damp woods (as was the case here). |
