Summary

[edit]
Description Ah, now here is an exotic creature- here a free ranging Cattle Egret forages near a rubbish dump near the tea shack. There were two birds actually, one was actually on the rubbish dump, this other fellow was in more agreeable surroundings. I saw several free ranging acquatic birds all over Kerala, mostly Egrets. I did not seem to see too many water bodies around Vagamon though, which is primarily mountain country, which surprised me as to what so many aquatic birds are doing here. The cattle egret (Bubulcus ibis) is a cosmopolitan species of heron (family Ardeidae) found in the tropics, subtropics and warm temperate zones. (Vagamon Hills, Kerala, India, Apr. 2016)
