A fragment of an Early Medieval copper alloy buckle.
Description
English: A fragment of an Early Medieval cast copper alloy single looped D-shaped buckle. The buckle has a narrowed and off-set strap bar which has been broken off by an old break close to the frame. . The outer edge of the frame is wide and is oval in cross section. Only on of the terminals survives, it extends beyond the strap bar, with a zoomorphic head. The fragment is 25.7mm long, 4.8mm wide, 3.6mm thick and weighs 3.8g. This type of buckle dates from the early-medieval period. It probably dates to the late 8th – 10th century.
