a fragment of a Roman brooch
Description
English: A fragment of a cast, copper alloy Roman brooch, possibly of the Polden Hill type, dating from 75-175AD. It consists of a short section of the bow, the head and a very small portion of the catch plate. A copper alloy pin bar and a fragment of the pin remain in place in the head. The remainder of the bow and catch plate, the foot, both wings and the pin are all missing. The remaining fragment has a dark brown patina. It is 27.8mm long, 12.7mm wide and 17,7mm thick. It weighs 10.51gm.
