A flemish armorial tapestry with coat of arms of member of Salcedo family 280cm. high, 244cm. wide; 9ft. 2in., 8ft. woven with the central coat-of-arms of those of Salcedo, of Spain, the shield surrounded by scrolling leaves and strapwork and surmounted with a plummed helmet, seat against a landscape with a boar hunt in the foreground, all within a four-sided Elements border, with Earth in the side borders represented by a variety of animals, Air in the top border represented by various birds, and Water in the lower border, represented by creatures of the sea, each corner with a seated female allegorical figures and attributes representing the Four Elements; Air, is Juno with a bird, Fire is a woman with a thunderbolt, Water is a river god with an upturned urn and Earth is Ceres with a cornucopia, with further inner and outer narrow borders with tongue-and-dart on yellow and red banded ground, with Brussels town mark, B*B lower selvedge, and weaver's mark, right hand selvedge.
