o get out of town willbe to go out the Spadina Crescent forabout three blocks and then cut acrossthe fields north of the park and gounder the G. T. P. and on soutliwcst. ^Ir. jMcLeod cant well see how theycould curve round from 22nd street togo out alongside the C. P. R. line, though he is willing to try and workit out on that plan. They expect tobuild a wide subway at the Crescent. Dr. Martin Murphj-, governmentengineer on the Grand Trunk Pacific, arrived in town from the west at noonto-day. Excellent progress is beingmade along the grade of the trans-continental, he says, and by the time the snow flies the line will be readytor ties and rails clear through tothe Alberta capital. There are plentyof men and teams to be had and thebridge building is progressing mostsatisfactorily, but he thinks that thetie famine will prevent any steel lay-ing west of here this year. The heaviest of the work on Dr.Murphys division is either completedor well under way. — The DailyPhoenix, July 31, 1907.

Residence of J. C. Drinkle. The freight yardsof a growing place always present abusy appearance at certain seasonsof the year, but just now those atSaskatoon present evidence of phe-nomenal development. Within thepast few days cars and trains of carsof merchandise and construction ma-terial have been pouring into the citjand quickly as the tracks can becleared there are waiting dozens ofloads at Warman and elsewhere tobe brought in. Take lumber for in-stance. Just this week a local rail- road man remarked to a PhcEnix re-porter that there isnt a dealer intown but has received sufficient lum-ber to load a heavy train. Mer-chandise of all kinds, farm imple-ments and machinery have all beenpiling into town at an unprecedentedrate. Either on the tracks at the pres-ent time or unloaded within the pastfew days a
