Operations of theseinstitutions are, however, an import-ant indication of the volume of husi-ness transacted in a community. Less than live years ago the lirstbranch of a chartered hank opened inSaskatoon. In the fall of IQ02 theBank of Hamilton commenced busi-ness here. The Union Bank of Can-ada followed in 1903. and the Cana-dian Bank of Commerce came thenext year, in 1004. Within the spaceof a few weeks in the spring of 1906were opened branches of the Bank ofMontreal, the Bank of Nova Scotiaand the Xorlhern Bank. During thesummer of the same year the UnionBank opened its second branch in the

In addition to the above, twoother chartered banks are known atthe lime of writing to be seeking alocation at the Hub. The NationalTrust Co., Limited, is another insti-tution with a branch at Saskatoon,and so marked has been this com-panjs progress here that they haveoutgrown their present offices andwill build on a central site this year.The contract was let in M.irch for apermanent and costly building. All of the above banks have had toadd vo their staffs during the oastyear and two at least will be locatedin new ciuarters before the presentyear goes out.
