Title
A double loop asymmetrical buckle
Description
English: A cast copper alloy double loop asymmetrical buckle with hook and pin still attached, measuring 42mm long and 25mm wide. The buckle frame has a trapezoidal shape at one end and a rounded shape the other. There are two notched points protruding from the rounded end of the buckle frame forming a simple decoration. The buckle plate is made from a thin copper alloy sheet folded in half to make a rectangular shape, with two rivets at one end (both approximately 3mm in diameter) which sandwich the hook in place which had been added separately. At the other end of the plate, a slot exists for the complete pin to wind round the strap bar. The pin tapers off to a point and still rests on the outer bar of the trapezoidal end of the buckle plate. The buckle is in reasonable condition with the buckle frame possessing a darker brown patina while the plate, hook and pin are in a slightly worse condition of corrosion forming a patchy green and brown patina. This type of buckle is post medieval, dating between the 16th to 18th centuries. Parallels can be seen in Buckles (Whitehead, 1996).
