Summary
[edit]DescriptionA dismantled railway trackbed - geograph.org.uk - 1278036.jpg |
English: A dismantled railway trackbed. A short path leads along this section of the former Midland and Great Northern Railway line. The trackbed has since been dismantled. This view was taken from the disused railway bridge which used to carry the trains over a rural lane > 1278027.
Briston and Melton Constable merge into each other and if it were not for the village sign it would be difficult to discern where the one ends and the other begins. For 50 years Melton Constable was the hub of a network of railway lines which were operated by the Midland and Great Northern Railway and left from Melton station in four directions. As recently as 1956, 32 trains per day passed through the station. A victim of the Beeching cuts, the last passenger train arrived on 4. April 1964. |
