COLONIES—COLONY TKADE In each of the six mining districts there is alegislative body termed a Mining Board. Theseboards are empowered to make bye-laws applicableto the district generally, with respect to miningaffairs and occupation under business licenses.Each of these boards consists of ten members,four of whom retire from each board annually byrotation. Each district has its separate Court of Mines.One of the judges of the Supreme Court is appointedto act as chief judge of the Court. The quantity of gold produced at the mines inNew South Wales cannot be accurately ascer-tained ; but the preceding table shows the quantityand estimated value of gold exported from NewSouth Wales and Victoria since the commence-ment of discoveries in May and October, 1851. The establishment of a Mint at Sydney willaccount for the small amount of gold exported in1855 and 1856. The following table shows the quantity of goldobtained in Victoria from the first discovery of thegold fields in 1851 to 1866
