Title |
A cylindrical turquoise glass bead, probably dating to the Roman period. |
||
Description |
English: Three complete and two incomplete turquoise cylindrical glass beads, probably dating to the Roman period (diameter of complete beads ranging from 8mm - 12mm; thickness ranging from 6mm - 9mm; collective weight: 3.69g). The slightly off-centre holes in the centre of the beads ranges from 2.4mm - 3mm. Ovrall, the beads are slightly worn but in a good condition. Similar beads are listed in Nina Crummy's 'Colchester Archaeological Report 2: The Roman Small Finds from Excavations in Colchester 1971-9', pages 30 & 32, as possible melon beads which date to 1st/ 2nd century AD contexts and are mostly made of turquoise frit. |
