Summary
[edit]DescriptionA crop of peas - geograph.org.uk - 1004517.jpg |
English: A crop of peas The pea is one of the four most important cultivated legumes next to soybean, groundnut, and beans and the total world production rose from 8.127 million metric tons in 1979-81 to 14.529 million metric tons in 1994. The highest productivity for pea was reported in France at 5088 kg per hectare in 1994, about eight times more than the African average yield. Important production areas of the world include France, Russia, Ukraine, Denmark and United Kingdom in Europe; China and India in Asia; Canada and USA in North America; Chile in South America; Ethiopia in Africa, and Australia. Peas are cultivated for fresh green seeds and pods and for dried seeds and foliage. Green peas are eaten cooked as a vegetable, and are marketed fresh, canned, or frozen while ripe dried peas are used whole, split, or made into flour. http://www.hort.purdue.edu/newcrop/cropfactsheets/pea.html |
