Title
A complete early post medieval lead alloy spoon, dating to the 16th century.
Description
English: A complete early post medieval lead alloy spoon, dating to the 16th century. The spoon has a pointed oval shaped bowl and a hexagonal stem, the stem terminates in a baluster knop In the bowl, just below the junction with the stem, there is a touch mark. This maker's mark comprises the letters TP with a cross in between all within a linear and then a pelleted border. The surface of the lead alloy has a gilded appearance due to tin sulphides "nature's gilding".

A very similar example is illustrated in Hornsby, Weinstein and Homer (1989:60 no. 34b) and is dated to the 16th century.

Dimensions: length: 163mm; thickness of the stem: 6.90mm; diameter of the bowl: 46.56mm; weight: 37.79g.
