Title
A complete Post Medieval Dutch wall or paving brick, dating to the 17th- early 18th century.
Description
English: A complete Post Medieval Dutch wall or paving brick, dating to the 17th- early 18th century. The bricks, known as clinkers, a transliteration of the Dutch 'klznkers', are made from dredged-up river mud, mostly from the River IJssel in the province of Holland. The number 18500, was scratched into the upper bedface when the mud was still wet, possibly a batch number. The brick has a smooth upper bedface and an irregular lower bedface, crease-marks are on all sides. The brick also shows signs of slight deformation probably due to slumping during the secondary drying in upright position.

Similar examples can be found on the PAS database: LON-2D8FF4 and LON-A28B76.
