52CAREL FABRITIUS: 1624(?).1654 Dutch School A MUSICAL INSTRUMENT DEALER AT HIS BOOTH IN THE OPEN AIR To the right is the south-eastern side of the Nieuwe Kerk atDelft. A street with a canal at the side of it forms theforeground ; it leads over one of the high stone bridges so charac-teristic of Delft. In the left foreground of the picture a man sits,deep in thought, under a tent set before a wall ; some musicalinstruments lie near him. A table with a violoncello upon it standsnear ; a lute is placed against the wall. Behind the tent is a highlattice overgrown with vine. IVood. 6i in. X 12 i in. (0.158 x 0.317). Signed: C. FABRITIUS on the wall at the left, and dated 1652.A label on the back of the picture states that it was Bought at Naples,1836.
