(1.155 ^ 0-977)- See also a letter in the Burlington Magazine, vol. ii., 1903, pp. 267-8, fromSignor Giovanni de Pellegrini, who shows that Giacomo di Agostino Doriawas a member of the Genoese branch of the Doria family, and gives reproduc-tions of the arms of the Genoese Dorias and the Dorias of Chioggia. Until recent years in a private collection in Naples. Signed to the right TICIANUS and, above, GIACOMO DORIA ^(?quondam) AUGUSTINI (/.f. Giacomo Doria, son of the late Agostino).The coat of arms of the Doria family is in the left upper corner. Shown at the Burlington Fine Arts Club, 1902, No. 54. 60GIORGIONH: 1477(?)-151() (Ascribed to)Vetictinn SchoolPORTRAIT OF (ilOV^ANNI ONIGO AvouNG man, less than life-size, turned three-quarters to the left,wearing a black cap, and black dress open at the neck and show-ing white embroidered shirt. In liis right hand he holds a greenbook, half open. The hand is gloved, a ring being worn outside onthe little finger, and the third finger tip is bare (? an archers glove).From the thoughtful expression it may be supposed that he was a poetor philosopher, but nothing is known of him. The Onigo family(whence this portrait came lately) resided near Treviso, and was oneof the most ancient aristocratic families in the North of Italy. Canvas. 27 in. x 22 in. (0.686 x 0.559).
