Title
A cast lead ingot with probable sandstone embedded in the middle. Date and usage is unknown.
Description
English: A cast lead ingot with what appears to be sandstone embedded in the centre of the flattened side (diameter: 67.2mm; thickness: 28.8mm; weight: exceeds more than 2000g). The artefact is slightly domed on one side, whilst flat on the other. It has been cast but the surface of the lead is extremely crude and lumpy with areas of grit and crystallized matter embedded in the surface. The sandstone in the flattened side is of roughly sub-angular shape (34.2mm x 32.1mm). It is unclear how far the sandstone continues down into the lead, or to what its purpose is. It is likely that the artefact may be a weight, but there are no attachment hooks for it to be used as a fishing weight etc. This artefact cannot be dated or identified.
