Title
A cast copper alloy probable harnes fitting/ pendant with enamel, dating between the 14th-16th century AD.
Description
English: A complete cast copper alloy probable horse harness fitting/ pendant, probably dating from the 14th-16th century AD (length: 44.8mm; width: 34.9mm; thickness: 7mm; weight: 15.19g). Of a general star shape, each arm has a three-pointed tip/ end. Two of the arms are the attachment points of the fitting. At one end, there is a surviving copper alloy dome-headed rivet still fixed to the arm, while the opposing end has a square-sided section, but all evidence of a possible rivet is hidden by corrosion. The centre of the fitting is slightly domed in shape with slight ridges running toward the centre in between each arm. There are remains of blue enamel in the form of a star in the very centre. Additionally, there are small remains of gilding, mainly surviving between the arms. The underside of the fitting is flat and undecorated. Overall, the artefact is worn and in a corroded condition with a dark brown patina, possibly due to the fitting being covered in a substance.
