Title
A cast copper alloy probable furniture fitting, dating to the 14th/ 15th century.
Description
English: A cast copper alloy decorative knop or finial, possibly used on small pieces of furniture (length: 20mm; diameter of spherical knop: 12.5mm; weight: 6.84g). A slightly pointed spherical knop (length: 12mm) with a collar below (diameter: 7mm). There is a small pointed pin or nail (length: 5mm) extending out from the collar. This feature may have originally been longer but appears to be very worn. There are remains of gilting around the upper point of the knop and round its base near the collar. Overall, these artefact is in a fair condition with a general amount of corrosion across the surface and a dark green/ brown patina.

Similar examples have been found at Bedern, York which date to 14th/ 15th century deposits (Ottaway & Rogers, 2002, pages 2829-30, fig 1408, ref nos 14228 & 14229).
