Title
A cast copper alloy fragment of a possible Trumpet brooch, dating mainly to the 2nd century AD.
Description
English: A small cast copper alloy fragment of a possible trumpet brooch (length: 20.2mm; width at head: 9.8mm; thickness at head: 11.5mm; weight: 2.63g). The head, loop and probable spring mechanism survive. The loop at the top of the brooch is in a roughly-shaped diamond with a hole of 1.8mm in the centre. There is a slight ridge down the centre of th head at the front which continues down to single rib, unerneath which the brooch has been broken and the bottom is no longer intact. At the back of the head, there are remains of a singly pierced central lug with two turns of the spring surviving to the left side. The probable iron axis bar is still held in place within the pierced lug. Additionally, there seems to be remains of silver plating along the left side of the head. The incomplete brooch is in a slightly worn but fair condition with an overall dark grey/ brown patina.
