Title |
A cast copper alloy crotal bell, dating from the 15th-18th century. |
||
Description |
English: A complete cast copper alloy crotal bell, with ball still inside, probably dating from the 16th - 18th century AD (length: 46.3mm; width/ diameter: 34.9mm; weight: 50.35g). The irregular handle slightly slopes on top of the main body of the bell with an arched hole. On the spherical body, there are two holes to either side of the base of the handle, one larger than the other (maximum diameter: 8mm). There is a raised border around the centre of the sphere, below which a faint sunburst decorative design appears either side of a slit with two holes at either end. The sunburst design is typical on the majority of crotal bells. Overall, the bell is slightly worn and in a fair condition, with a dark green patina. |
