A cast copper alloy Roman brooch
Description
English: An incomplete cast copper alloy Roman Colchester one piece brooch, dating to the first century AD. The bow is triangular in plan, tapering to at sharp point at the foot, and D shape in section. The head angles down sharply, where it joins with the wings. The wings are concave to house the spring, now missing; one of the wings is broken. The catchplate, is triangular in plan, with openwork; this consists of four holes, with the two bottom ones arranged vertically, and the top two set at either side of the middle hole. It is in good condition, with old breaks; it is dark green in colour. It measures 35.61 mm L x 15.90 mm W x 13.66 mm TH and weighs 5.53 g. Similar to Hattatt 251.
