Title
A cast copper alloy Roman brooch
Description
English: An incomplete cast copper Roman brooch, dating to the 1st century. It is a Hod Hill variant; the head is hinged with the metal rolled forward over an iron axis bar. The brooch tapers to a rectangular collar, over what may be two broken knops. The bow is triangular, widening towards the base, and has four moulded rib. The terminal has two moulded vertical lines, and the foot tapers towards its end. The reverse of the foot has a vertical triangular catch plate. The brooch is incomplete with old breaks at the head, along the rolled over copper alloy sheet, as well as at the top of the catch plate; there is also an old break at the end of the foot, where a knop may have been. The pin is missing. The brooch is bent slightly at the top of the terminal, making the head tilt left. It measures 55.59 mm L x 23.43 mm W x 8.95 mm TH and weighs 9.09 g.
