Title
A cast copper alloy Medieval thimble
Description
English: An incomplete copper alloy Medieval beehive thimble constructed from sheet metal; it probably dates between 1400-1500 AD. It is now damaged and no longer in its original shape, but was probably domed shaped originally; it is currently in a sub-hexagonal shape. The top of the dome is plain with no decoration. Just below the apex of the dome are small circular indentations arranged in vertical lines (these do not match horizontally), which run down to just above the rim. There are two horizontal parallel incised lines running around the circumference of thimble. It is fair condition, with a crack along the base that runs upwards for 6.81 mm, and a large hole along one of the corners formed by the mishaping of the thimble. There is a small irregular shaped piece of metal bent outwards along this hole. In its current state, it measures 21.21 mm L x 14.13 mm W x 1.25 mm TH and weighs 2.84 g.

A similar thimble can be seen on the database HAMP-511211
