Title
A cast copper alloy Early Medieval brooch fragmemt
Description
English: A fragment of a cast copper-alloy narrow cruciform brooch of early Anglo-Saxon date. Only the foot survives. The front has relief decoration of a softly moulded horse's head with rounded end to the nose and bumps for eyes. Above is a single transverse moulded rib, and above this is a pair of similar ribs. Two further ribs are set below the break. The brooch appears mis-cast, with two holes just above the horse's head. The reverse is concave, with only a long low stub of catchplate surviving. It has a dark green patina with red patches of corrosion located throughout. It is in fair condition. It measures 40.66 mm L x 8.5 mm W x 4.7 mm TH and weighs 4.8 g.

This type of narrow cruciform brooch dates to the 5th century AD.
