Title |
A cast copper-alloy arm from a medieval locking buckle. |
||
Description |
English: A cast copper-alloy arm from a medieval locking buckle. The arm is curved at one end where it has broken. The arm is circular in cross-section and is thinner at the part which would have acted as the pin bar within the buckle frame. The object can be dated to the 14th century (Geake 2001, 28). Complete 'locking buckles' can be found illustrated in Ward Perkins (1940, opp. 273; Plate LXXVII). It has a mid brown patina.
A similar example which can be found on the database is HAMP-96FF84. |
