Description
English: No. 42. Wellesley-Pole sits in an arm-chair, pen in hand, supporting his head on his hand, and staring in front of him. On the floor (right) are a brief-bag and two briefs: 'Wellesley v. Long' and 'Long v. Wellesley'. Behind (left), other legal papers are stacked; on the top of a pile of papers inscribed 'Affidavit, 'Petition' (both several times), 'Answer', 'Bills is a Bill of Costs 5000'. On a round library table (right) are more dossiers. He says: 'I'll be revenged and write a faithful History of the Court of Chancery'. 1829

Dorothy George, 'Catalogue of Political and Personal Satires in the British Museum', XI, 1954) His petition for his children's custody has been refused, see No. 15928. He had married Miss Tylney-Long, taking the name of Tylney-Long in addition to Wellesley-Pole, see No. 11744, &c. For abuses in Chancery see (e.g.) No. 15517.
