Summary
[edit]DescriptionA bridge within a bridge near Bramley - geograph.org.uk - 44462.jpg |
English: A bridge within a bridge near Bramley. When the Guildford to Horsham railway was built it ran next to the Wey and Arun Canal for the first few miles. Just north of Bramley a local lane crossed the canal by a traditional hump-back bridge. When the railway came a much larger bridge was required to span both canal and railway. The unusual solution chosen was to encase the old bridge within a new larger one. This photo was taken in 1996. Unfortunately the surrounding vegetation has since grown considerably, making it difficult to take a picture of anything other than foliage today! |
