Title
a blue glass bead of unknown date
Description
English: A complete but worn glass bead of uncertain date. It is sub-spherical with a single central perforation, is opaque and pale turquoise-blue in colour. There is some minor damage, the outer surface having been chipped to show the fabric beneath. The bead is 10mm in diameter and 7.7mm thick. It weighs 1.01gm.

The dating of glass beads found out of context is difficult. The reasons for this include that the method of manufacture has changed very little over time and also that when beads are plain, as in this case, there is little indication of date given by the object itself. The date is therefore uncertain with a range from late Iron Age to Modern having been suggested for similar types of glass bead.

A number of similar beads can be found on the database; see for example, references: DENO-4E6A92, SWYOR-92DC26 and DUR-613AC7.
