| Description |
English: A bleak environment This photo was taken on a relatively pleasant September afternoon. It takes little imagination to picture life here in mid-winter. Not only did men work here from dawn to dusk but most also lived here either in the barracks or in the family houses by the side of the tramway. The womenfolk of these houses would shop for food and other necessities at Blaenau on a Saturday afternoon and then schlep up the three massive inclines from the town with their purchases. Today,folk cannot go a hundred yards to shop without first jumping into their cars. |
