Chardin is the lastsurviving remains of the Old School of booksellers inParis; and as I love antiquities of almost all kinds,I love to have a little occasional gossip with M. Char-din. A finer old man, with a more characteristic phy-siognomy, hath not appeared in France from the timeof Gering downwards. M. Chardin is above the meanheight; is usually attired in a rocquelaure ; and his fineflowing grey locks are usually surmounted by a smallblack silk cap.
