Yunnan City, the capital, is situated near abeautiful lake on a plain a thousand li in length. Thisgreat plateau is six thousand feet above the sea level,and from October till the end of April a cloud is seldomseen, and the sun shines in glorious splendour. I wasonce fishing, on a summers day, on the Sea of Galilee.The old skipper who fixed the lines for me said thatstorms unexpectedly break upon this most beautifulsheet of water just as they did in the time of our Lord.In a somewhat similar fashion the beautiful lake of thecapital, although but forty miles in length, is visitedby sudden cyclones. But storms occur only in thedaytime. Towards evening the boatmen weigh anchorand their craft carrying cargoes of grain sail safely
