Summary

[edit]
Description
English: A Spanish armorial tapestry

third quarter 17th century

Woven in wools, the center with the arms of Luis de Salcedo, flanked by solomonic columns, with later blue outer guard border, limited areas of re-weaving

Approximately 10 ft. 5 in. (318 cm.) high, 9 ft. (275 cm.) wide

This tapestry is centered by the quartered arms of Luis de Salcedo, including to the top left the arms of Cabex-Salcedo, to the top right those of Alzolaras and the bottom left those of the Garay, all Basque families, and the bottom right with a yet unidentified arm. Visible behind the arms is a scrolling cross which is the symbol for the Order of Alcántara, first established with the Papal approval in 1164. Luis de Salcedo became a knight of Calatrava in 1666. The coat-of-arms to the top of the tapestry are those of the Colegio Mayor de San Bartolomé which was founded in 1410/11 in Salamanca.
