Summary
[edit]DescriptionA Rove Beetle - geograph.org.uk - 1305537.jpg |
English: A Rove Beetle This beetle belongs to the family Staphylinidae (also known as the Rove Beetles); worldwide, well over forty thousand species belong to this family, and they prey upon tiny invertebrates. In this area of heather and rough grassland, I came across many examples of this particular species (unfortunately, my camera is not suitable for taking very close-up shots).
What I found most eye-catching about these beetles were the various golden spots on the body, all of them consisting of tiny hairs; some of those spots are visible in this image. The beetle shown in this image belongs to the genus Staphylinus. |
