Description |
English: A cast, lead alloy spindle whorl of uncertain date, but possibly late Roman or early medieval, dating from 400-600AD. Both faces are flat and undecorated. The whorl is 29.3mm in diameter and 8.1mm thick. It weighs 28.43gm. The central perforation is 11mm in diameter. For a discussion of the various types of early spindle whorl, see Rogers, Cloth and Clothing in Early Anglo-Saxon England, pages 23-26. |
