Description
English: A Roman copper alloy nail cleaner. The nail cleaner has a sub triangular shaped blade with incurving sides. There is a large sub circular loop at the top in the same plane as the blade. There is a collar at the junction between the blade and the loop. The blade is decorated with two triangular cells filled with red enamel; the remains of which are still present. At the base of these cells, just above the end bifurcation is a transverse groove. Crummy;in Nail-Cleaners at the clean edge of empire (Lucerna July 2001) p5; comments that enamelled instruments may form part of a set attached to chatelaines, and attributes examples from Southern Britain to the 2nd century AD.
