Title
A Roman copper alloy nail cleaner, dating to the 2nd to 4th centuries A.D.
Description
English: An example of a Roman copper alloy nail cleaner. This type of nail cleaner is a Grooved collar variant 1 according to Crummy and Eckhart (2003; 54). These have been found in some second century contexts, but generally these types of nail cleaners are derived from third and fourth centuries A.D. (ibid). This type of nail cleaner is characterised by the cross hatching decorating the top of the shaft. There is some damage to the top of the nail cleaner and it seems as though the suspension loop is missing.
